I have to say I think the world would be a better place if Cobain had died in 1944 and saved us having to hear those awful songs. (The exception being “And the top sheet is a dry weave”, as heard on the great The Day Today (althou you may be too young for that mean owt to you Carl lad!)
ha! au contraire, I have seen the day today, loved it, am a fan of most of Morris’ work. however, I’m afraid to say I was just at the right age when Nirvana was big around the mean streets of Basildon, so I have fond memories of them. they might not have had the same appeal had their lead singer been born in 1944.
Despite having phone/email, when I was with swappies 10yrs ago the only way I heard abt meetings was my college sandwich board. Not hi-tech 2 hours ago

A Briton accused of selling batteries for Iranian missiles describes his treatment as "a disgrace" as he arrives at Heathrow to be extradited to the US.
The Independent's John Rentoul wants to investigate the possibility of a no-fly zone in Syria; bomb-happy French interventionist Bernard Kouchner wants to arm the Syrian opposition. A stench of unreality and grandstanding hangs over this entire scenario.
Since we’ve now had three polls on the London mayoral election since mid-January, now seems a good time to look at what they tell us about the race. There also continues to be a ‘Labour for Boris’ vote as well as a ‘Tories for Ken’ crowd. But the ComRes poll in particular demonstrates an interesting point about where the polls might go from here. Workfare has recently come under close scrutiny, and criticism aimed at some high-profile employers has culminated in a terse response from the Government. Detractors condemn workfare as barely better than slave labour, while defenders claim it's a valuable addition to other forms of help for unemployed people. But what does the evidence say about wheth […]
The Daily Telegraph today splashes with an investigation into abortion - highlighting some examples of doctors agreeing to abortions on spurious grounds 'no questions asked'. There's a key reason why this story is being pushed now, but first there's a few points to be made about the story itself.
Gio Simmonsdale1997-2011Maybe it's somehow fitting that this will be the last ever blogpost on this blog. It marks the end of two eras - the end of this blog, as in a few days time my new site, Dale & Co launches, and also the end of a life.Five hours ago my beloved little Jack Russell, Gio, died. Those of you who have ever had the privilege of owni […]
Sitting here basking in 32 degree heat, looking out over a balmy Darwin sunset in northern Australia I am wondering why anyone would ever leave this heavenly place. I’ve been in Australia for nearly two weeks and have loved every minute of it. It’s a truly fabulous country and it’s easy to see why so many Brits come here to live. It’s a very optimistic count […]
Guido has spoken to people in a position to know and it is clear that the Maurice Glasman writing a column for the Sun on Sunday story going round needs comprehensive debunking. Glasman was originally supposed to write a piece for The Sun, the article had been in the offing for a couple of weeks. [...]
In February last year Thick of It creator Armando Iannucci coughed some insight about the new season to the Guardian. The much loved Tory MP character Peter Mannion “becomes minister but there will be someone from the other party in the coalition in his office, so a lot of the comedy will come from that tension between duplicated [...]
